In an interview in the documentary entitled \u201cDerrida\u201d 2002 by Kirk Dirby and Amy Zierling Kofman, French philosopher, Jacques Derrida, talks about love in this way.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-1477-1\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-1477-1-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-1477-1-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"2\" ><div class=\"textwidget\"><p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cIs love the love of someone or of some thing?\u201d \u201cDo I love someone for the abso\u00adlute singularity of who they are? I love you because you are you. Or do I love you be\u00adcause of your qualities, your beauty, your intelligence? Does one love someone or love something about someone? The difference between the who and the what are at the heart of love that separates the heart.\u201d <em>(\u201cDerrida\u201d)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>Derrida differentiates between unconditional love and conditions, by separating the concept of love into the abstract as in \u201cqualities\u201d and love in physical terms of an individual.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Slavic philosopher Slavoj \u017di\u017eek believes love is unconditional and grounded in realistic belief of an absolute. In \u201cExamined Life\u201d, (Astra Taylor) He talks about our separation to our world in terms of ecology, if we truly love others, and ourselves we need to love our world in the same way. We know that we face insurmountable dangers, yet we are able to continue enjoying the very lifestyle that has created it.<\/p>\n<p>We are separate, disconnected from the fact that we profit from disaster, pointing to oil as a natural resource that comes from the sledge of \u2018dead life\u2019. He suggests that we don\u2019t need more connection to our natural world but that we need more alienation so that we may be motivated to work on ideas of survival from a more realistic place. He suggests finding po\u00adetry, spirituality from this new age of abstract dimen\u00adsion, accepting our disconnections; for example, loving substances like trash to show true love for the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cWhat is Love? <\/em><strong><em>Love is not idealization\u2026 <\/em><\/strong><em>If you really love a woman or a man, then you don\u2019t idealize him or her. Love is that you accept a person, for all its [their] failures, stupidities, and none-the-less, the person is absolute for you, everything that makes life worth living. You see perfection in imperfec\u00adtion itself, and that is how we should love the world.\u201d\u00a0 (\u017di\u017eek, \u201cExamined Life\u201d)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Both Derrida and \u017di\u017eek point to a separation of mat\u00adter. Who (the person or world) or what (ideas of love or characteristics) do we love? \u017di\u017eek believes we need to embrace imperfection, yet with the Internet, choice has enabled the \u201cwhat\u201d of love to become more predominant. We can choose from literally mil\u00adlions of people to \u201cconnect\u201d with, so qualities that we love can be found in many people not just one. We can find what we love theoretically bringing us to the question of \u201cwho do we love?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Why limit it?
